Harif – Expulsion of Jews from the Middle East, 2021
On November 30th, 2021 I read a new poem ‘Daughters of Islam’s Disappeared’ at a special event at the JW3 Centre in North London. The poem was commissioned by Harif to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the expulsion and departure of Jews from Arab countries and Iran in the wake of the 1956 Suez crisis.
This expulsion was part of wider displacement of Jews from throughout the Middle East in the mid 20th century and saw some 850,000 Jews leave the homes where their families had lived for millennia.
The event was jointly organised by Harif, Sephardi Voices UK, and JW3
